What a tube extension does

A tube extension adds length to the magazine tube on your shotgun, increasing how many shells the tube can hold. Most factory semi-automatic and pump-action shotguns hold between four and six rounds in the tube, depending on the model and the shell length you are shooting. A tube extension brings that number up — typically by one, two, or more additional rounds.

Why it matters

In practical shotgun shooting — IPSC Shotgun, 3-Gun, or action shooting formats — running out of rounds mid-stage means stopping to load, and loading costs time. More rounds in the tube means more shots before you need to interrupt the stage, which matters when the target count is close to your current capacity or when your load planning has to be tight.

For training, extra capacity means longer strings before a reload interrupts the drill. If you are working on anything that benefits from sustained repetition — transitions, stage simulation, shotgun handling — having more rounds available lets you work through it more cleanly.

What to consider before buying

  • Rounds added – extensions come in different lengths, and the number of additional rounds depends on the shell length you are shooting. The exact capacity increase is always specified in the product description.
  • Forend clearance – an extended tube protrudes past the end of the standard forend. Some aftermarket handguards are designed to accommodate this; others are not. If your shotgun has a non-standard forend, confirm the extended tube will clear it before ordering.
  • Fitting – tube extensions thread onto or replace the magazine cap at the end of the tube. No permanent modification to the receiver is required, and the original configuration can be restored at any time.

Thread specifications vary by shotgun model. Always verify compatibility on the individual product page before ordering.
