A heavier base pad drops the Q5 magazine cleanly after the release and closes the magwell funnel at the bottom of the grip when a magwell is fitted. The Q5 family uses Walther-specific double-stack 9mm magazines, and both the standard Q5 and the Q5 Match SF use the same magazine. For Q5 competition shooters running a magwell -- particularly on the steel-framed Q5 Match SF, where the complete competition reload setup makes sense -- the base pad and magwell are chosen together.
